Creating Picture-in-Picture and Overlay Layouts
Build professional PiP layouts with webcam overlays, graphics, and multi-source compositions in OBS and vMix.
The Solution
Use OBS Scenes or vMix Layers to create professional multi-source layouts with picture-in-picture webcam overlays, graphics, and lower thirds.
Step-by-Step Instructions
In OBS: Create a new Scene for your PiP layout
Add your main source (game, presentation, desktop) as first source
Add camera source (Magewell) as second source
Resize camera source: Click and drag corners to desired PiP size
Position PiP: Drag to corner of canvas
Add border: Right-click > Filters > Apply LUT or Image Mask
Add lower third graphics: Add Image source with PNG overlay
Create Scene Transitions for switching between layouts
Save multiple layouts as different Scenes for quick switching
Use Studio Mode to preview before going live
Pro Tips
- PiP size: 20-25% of canvas is standard for webcam overlay
- Rounded corners: Use image mask filter with rounded rectangle PNG
- Green screen: Use Chroma Key filter to remove webcam background
- Animate transitions between layouts for professional look
- Use StreamElements or own PNG overlays for branded graphics
