Setting Up OBS Studio with Magewell Capture

Launch OBS Studio on your computer

Click the '+' icon in the Sources panel

Select 'Video Capture Device'

Give your source a name (e.g., 'Magewell Camera')

In the Device dropdown, select your Magewell USB Capture device

Set Resolution/FPS Type to 'Custom'

Choose your desired resolution (1920x1080) and FPS (60 or 30)

Configure Audio Output Mode if capturing audio

Pro Tips

  • Use 1080p60 for smooth gameplay and fast-motion content
  • Set Bitrate to 6000 Kbps for 1080p60 streaming (adjust based on your upload speed)
  • Enable Hardware Encoding (NVENC for NVIDIA, AMD VCE for AMD) to reduce CPU load
  • Add audio sync offset if you experience lip-sync issues (usually -50ms to +50ms)
  • Test your stream with Twitch Inspector or YouTube Live Dashboard before going live
