The Magewell Pro Capture Hexa CVBS captures six independent analogue composite (CVBS) input channels simultaneously on a single PCIe x4 card, with each channel processed by its own dedicated FPGA. At £431, it is the purpose-built solution for organisations that need to digitise or ingest multiple analogue SD sources at the same time: legacy CCTV systems, analogue security cameras, archive broadcast material, and analogue video feeds that have not yet been migrated to digital infrastructure. Six channels, one card, independent processing on each.
The Pro Capture Hexa CVBS accepts standard analogue composite video in both NTSC and PAL formats across all six inputs. Each channel captures an independent source simultaneously. This is not a multiplexed single-channel design cycling between inputs. All six inputs are active at the same time, each with its own FPGA handling signal processing, colour conversion, and scaling. The card presents six independent capture devices to the host operating system and production software.
This is a specialist card for specific operational contexts where analogue composite sources remain in active use:
A six-input card with a single shared processor must time-slice across channels under load, which reduces effective throughput per channel and creates contention when all inputs are active simultaneously. The Pro Capture Hexa CVBS uses a per-channel FPGA architecture: each of the six channels is processed entirely independently. There is no shared bottleneck. All six channels can run continuously at full performance across NTSC and PAL sources without any channel affecting another. For 24/7 digitisation and monitoring applications, this is the architecture that delivers consistent results.
For analogue archive digitisation projects, the Hexa CVBS significantly increases capture throughput per server. A single PCIe x4 slot gives you six simultaneous SD analogue capture streams. In a standard server with multiple PCIe slots, multiple Hexa CVBS cards can run in parallel, giving you twelve, eighteen, or more simultaneous analogue channels from a single unit. This is how large analogue digitisation backlogs are completed efficiently, rather than sequentially one tape at a time.
Both NTSC and PAL are supported across all six channels. For UK organisations digitising historical broadcast content, PAL support is directly relevant. Mixed-format archives containing both PAL and NTSC material are handled across channels without hardware changes between sessions.
Compatible with vMix, Wirecast, OBS Studio, Adobe Premiere Pro, and FFmpeg. Supported on Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server; Linux kernel 3.x and above; and macOS 10.14 and later. Each of the six channels appears as an independent capture device.
