Understanding and Configuring EDID Settings

What is EDID and how to configure it for optimal video capture. Custom EDID settings for problematic sources.

The Solution

EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) tells your video source what resolutions and formats the capture device supports. Configure custom EDID for sources that don't auto-detect correctly.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Launch USB Capture Utility (Windows/macOS)

2

Select your device from the list

3

Click the 'EDID' tab

4

You'll see current EDID settings and supported resolutions

5

To change: Click 'Custom EDID' and select desired resolution/refresh rate

6

Common options: 1080p60, 1080p30, 720p60, 4K30, 4K60

7

Apply settings and reconnect your video source

8

Source should now output the resolution specified in your custom EDID

Pro Tips

  • Use Auto EDID for most scenarios - device auto-detects best resolution
  • Custom EDID useful for cameras that output strange resolutions
  • Set lower resolution if you experience bandwidth/performance issues
  • 1080p60 EDID works for 99% of streaming and recording applications
  • Reconnect your source after changing EDID for changes to take effect
