The Director Mini is a self-contained hardware production switcher with four HDMI inputs, a built-in touch-screen control surface, and an integrated streaming encoder. It does not require a connected PC to operate. You connect your cameras, configure your sources on the touch panel, switch live, and stream directly to your destination via RTMP or SRT, all from a single device.
At £848, it is designed for small-scale live production environments where a dedicated production switcher is justified, where reliability matters more than maximum features, and where a full broadcast setup is neither practical nor necessary.
The Director Mini takes up to four HDMI sources (cameras, laptops, playback devices, or any HDMI output) and allows the operator to switch between them live with transition effects, scene compositions, and picture-in-picture layouts. The touch-screen interface built into the unit is the control surface: no external control panel, no laptop running switcher software, no additional hardware to set up or configure before the event.
Programme output goes via HDMI for display or downstream processing and simultaneously via the built-in encoder to a streaming platform or recording destination over RTMP or SRT. An NDI output option is available for integration with NDI-based production networks, allowing the Director Mini to feed into a larger IP video infrastructure.
Software-based production switchers such as vMix and OBS are capable and affordable, but they depend entirely on a host PC: its processing power, its operating system updates, its driver compatibility, and its stability under load. A hardware switcher like the Director Mini starts up consistently, has no operating system to patch itself between events, and provides a fixed physical control surface that operators learn once and use the same way at every event thereafter.
For weekly or monthly recurring productions where the same people run the same format repeatedly, hardware reliability and workflow consistency are genuine operational advantages that justify the investment over a software-only solution.
