The Magewell Ultra Encode SDI is the broadcast-signal version of the Ultra Encode range: a standalone hardware encoding appliance that accepts SD-SDI, HD-SDI, and 3G-SDI video sources and streams them over IP without any host PC. At £369, the choice between this and the Ultra Encode HDMI comes down entirely to your signal format. In broadcast environments, SDI is the standard. If your cameras, switchers, routers, and monitors run SDI, this is the encoder you need.
The Ultra Encode SDI captures SDI video at up to 1080p60 and encodes it to H.264 or H.265 at bitrates up to 50Mbps. Output is delivered over RTMP, RTSP, SRT, NDI, or HLS. Like all Ultra Encode devices, it is fully standalone: configure it once through the web-based management interface and it runs without any attached computer, indefinitely.
Any broadcast or professional AV environment running SDI infrastructure that needs to add IP streaming capability without replacing existing signal routing. Typical deployments include:
The Ultra Encode SDI and HDMI are functionally identical encoders with different input connectors. SDI is the professional broadcast standard: it handles longer cable runs without signal degradation, carries embedded audio reliably, and is the connector format on professional cameras, vision mixers, and broadcast monitors. If your source equipment has BNC SDI outputs, this is the unit. If it has HDMI, the HDMI variant is the right choice. For a mixed installation with both signal types, the Ultra Encode AIO handles HDMI and SDI inputs simultaneously at £616. For enhanced protocol support including SRT encryption and advanced NDI configuration, the Ultra Encode SDI Plus is available at £440.
