Magewell USB Capture Utility: Firmware Updates and Device Settings
Magewell USB capture devices work as standard UVC cameras for day-to-day capture — no driver install required for OBS, Zoom, or Teams. The optional USB Capture Utility (V3 on current downloads) is for firmware updates, EDID tweaks, and diagnostics when you need more control.

Firmware Updates
Connect the device directly to a USB 3.0 port, close other apps using the capture stream, and run the utility's firmware update flow. Do not unplug during the process. After a successful update, disconnect and reconnect once before reopening your production software. Firmware updates address compatibility with new sources, stability fixes, and feature additions — they do not replace UVC behaviour for normal capture.
EDID and Processing Modes
Advanced users can adjust EDID-related options where the utility exposes them — useful when a source refuses to output the resolution you expect, or when you need to lock a preferred timing for a switcher. Document your changes: in education and corporate rollouts, standardise settings across rooms so support teams see the same behaviour everywhere.
If Something Goes Wrong
