Magewell Control Hub Basic: Device Management Software for Medium Magewell Deployments

Control Hub Basic is the second tier of Magewell's Control Hub device management platform. It extends the core monitoring and configuration capabilities of the Lite tier with a higher device capacity and two practically important operational features: automated alerting and scheduled tasks. It is designed for facilities managing a medium number of Magewell devices where passive status checking is no longer sufficient and automated monitoring is needed.

This is a software licence, not a hardware product.

What Control Hub Does

Control Hub centralises management of Magewell Pro Convert, Ultra Encode, and compatible network devices into a single web interface. Rather than accessing each device individually through its own browser interface, operators can monitor device status, push configuration changes, manage firmware, and respond to issues from one place. As the number of devices in a deployment grows, this centralisation becomes progressively more valuable and the overhead of per-device management becomes increasingly impractical.

What Basic Adds Over Lite

The two capabilities that distinguish Basic from Lite are alerting and scheduled tasks:

  • Alerting: the Control Hub Basic tier can notify designated recipients when a device goes offline, a signal is lost, or a configured condition is triggered. This shifts device monitoring from a manual check-in process to an automated notification system. For facilities where Magewell devices are expected to run unattended for extended periods, alerting means issues surface immediately rather than being discovered during the next manual inspection or, worse, when a client or audience reports a problem
  • Scheduled tasks: routine operations such as configuration changes, device restarts, or status checks can be scheduled to run automatically at defined times, reducing the manual workload for repetitive maintenance tasks
  • Increased device capacity: the Basic tier supports more connected Magewell devices than the Lite tier, covering medium-scale installations where Lite would be insufficient

Who Needs Control Hub Basic

  • Broadcast facilities with multiple Pro Convert or Ultra Encode units distributed across a building or campus where manual device checks are impractical to sustain
  • Corporate AV integrators managing Magewell device deployments across client sites as part of a support arrangement, where alerting helps identify and respond to issues before clients report them
  • Universities and education organisations with Magewell devices across lecture rooms, production suites, and campus buildings who need automated monitoring and centralised firmware management
  • Houses of worship and conference venues with a growing Magewell device count where the Lite tier's device capacity or feature set is no longer sufficient
  • Managed AV service providers who include Magewell device uptime monitoring as part of a service level agreement

When to Choose Basic Over Lite

If you have more than a handful of Magewell devices, or if you need automated alerting for device failures or signal loss rather than manual status checks, Control Hub Basic is the appropriate tier. If you are managing a small number of devices and only need a central view without automated notifications, the Lite tier at £153 is more cost-appropriate. If you need API integration or Active Directory authentication, look at the Plus or Pro tiers.
